Meroë Khalia Adeeb, Lyric Soprano

Lyric soprano Meroë Khalia Adeeb joins Winston-Salem Choral Artists as a featured guest soloist in Margaret Bonds’ Credo.  Her career spans American and European opera stages, orchestral concerts, and contemporary works, with appearances at the Glimmerglass Festival, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Teatro Regio di Torino.

Adeeb discovered her desire to pursue singing professionally while studying at Tuskegee University and performing with its choir.  She began her classical training at Louisiana State University and earned her master’s degree at Binghamton University.

At Tri-Cities Opera, she has portrayed Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata and Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème, two roles she counts among her favorites.  Her repertoire also includes the title role in Suor Angelica, Gilda in Rigoletto, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and Nannetta in Falstaff.

Her performances as Clara in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess have taken her to the Glimmerglass Festival, Fort Worth Opera, and Teatro Regio di Torino.  She has also sung in the ensemble of Porgy and Bess at the Metropolitan Opera.

Recent appearances include the Governess in The Turn of the Screw, Micaëla in Carmen, and Nedda in Pagliacci with Union Avenue Opera; Sadie Donastorg Griffith in Terence Blanchard’s Champion at Lyric Opera of Chicago; and Isabelle in The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson at Pittsburgh Opera. Her contemporary opera credits include creating Annie in the world premiere of Korine Fujiwara’s The Flood at Opera Columbus and participating in Opera Theatre of St. Louis’ New Works Collective.  On the concert stage, she has appeared as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Columbus Symphony and as a Street Chorus soloist in Bernstein’s MASS with the National Symphony Orchestra.  Her recital repertoire includes works by composers Jacqueline Hairston, John Carter, and H. T. Burleigh.  She brings this experience to Choral Artists’ A World Renewed season.

A Bronx native, Conyers earned his Bachelor of Music and Professional Artist Certificate at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and his Master of Music at Indiana University.  His professional training includes Washington National Opera’s Cafritz Young Artists program and Wolf Trap Opera.

His repertoire includes Verdi’s Rigoletto and Falstaff, Scarpia in Tosca, Tonio in Pagliacci, and Count Capulet in Roméo et Juliette.  In contemporary opera, he has performed Reginald in Anthony Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X with several companies, recorded the role with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and covered it at the Metropolitan Opera. His appearances in Jeanine Tesori’s Blue include Washington National Opera, Seattle Opera, and English National Opera.

Conyers’ concert engagements include Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, as well as Handel’s Messiah with the New York Philharmonic.  A dedicated advocate for Black American art song, he recorded A Miracle in Legacy with pianist Chelsea Whitaker and produced IN PLAIN SIGHT: The Black Anthology, bringing Eastman School of Music students and faculty together to record repertoire by Black American composers.

He serves as Assistant Professor of Voice and Faculty Director of the George Walker Center at Eastman.  His teaching combines professional performing experience with mentorship of emerging singers.  His 2026–27 artist residency with Winston-Salem Choral Artists, Wake Forest University, and UNCSA includes a recital, master classes, and Bonds’ Credo.  His appearance marks a return to the community where he trained, bringing his work as a performer, educator, and advocate to Choral Artists’ A World Renewed season.
